5 tips to whiten your nails

Between the application of repeated varnish and tobacco, the nails sometimes tend to turn yellow. 5 tips for them to regain their natural whiteness.

There is no shortage of reasons that cause nail tarnishing and yellowing: repetitive nail polish, use of a solvent that is too aggressive, daily work (dishes, gardening, DIY) without gloves, and of course tobacco. Not always easy to keep white nails healthy. 5 tips to prevent them from turning yellow and whiten them easily.

BAKING SODA TO FIND WHITE NAILS

Baking soda has not only household virtues but also… cosmetic. This one is famous for whitening teeth like nails.

How to use it? Wash your hands, dry them and then apply the baking soda to the nail by rubbing it via a tooth bump. If tarnishing resists, another tip: mix baking soda with hydrogen peroxide. You will then get a paste to massage on your nails before rinsing it. Finally, don’t forget to apply a moisturizer to your hands.

THE NATURAL SOLUTION TO WHITEN YOUR NAILS: LEMON

This is grandma’s easy, gentle, natural and accessible trick to whiten her nails. Thanks to its acidity, lemon is a natural purifier that cleanses and whitens the nail. It is the natural ingredient used in many nail bars in Asia to detoxify nails.

At home, how to use lemon to whiten nails?

  • Soak your nails in a bowl of lemon juice for at least 10-15 minutes and rub your nails with a toothbrush.
  • Rub your nails in half a lemon.

Whether you use the1st or2nd method, your nails will start to whiten after just a few days.

THE “NAIL BATH”: WHITENESS AND FIRMNESS

After the “oil bath” for the hair, the “nail bath”. This allows them to gain in whiteness, length and firmness.

To do this, simply invest in bleaching effervescent balls or pebbles (which you can order on the websites of Peggy Sage and Infra Cosmetics). Composed of essential oils, lemon (perfect for whiteness) but also vitamins B5 and amino acids (ideal for the growth and firmness of nails), they strengthen the keratin of the nail while giving the latter whiteness and shine.

How to make a nail bath?

Take a large bowl, fill it with water and then place the effervescent pebbles at the bottom. Result? Your nails are whiter and harder. This bath is to be done once a week or every 2 weeks.

POLISHING YOUR NAILS, THE EASY ANTI-YELLOWING ACT

The most effective method when it is the varnish that makes your nails rub off? The polisher. This one immediately gives a boost of shine to your nails.

How to use a polisher?

Polish your nails until you remove the layer of the nail that has turned yellow. As for fragile or soft nails, go soft on the polisher because the more you file your nail, themore it will be sensitized. Use once every 15 days.

TO PROTECT YOUR NAILS FROM TARNISHING: APPLY A TOLUENE-FREE BASE

Once your nails are polished, protect them from nail polish (which can turn your nails yellow by force) by applying a transparent base without toluene. Why without toluene? If this chemical liquid facilitates the application of nail polish, it is partly responsible for the yellowing of the nails. But good news, toluene is less and less used in nail polishes.

Note: whitening varnishes do not actually whiten the nails. It is an optical effect. These are slightly bluish, they cancel out the yellow color and give the impression of whiter nails. A solution that can nevertheless troubleshoot in case of an important appointment (pro or personal).

Finally, it goes without saying but it is important to remember: let your nails breathe! For at least 3 weeks, no varnish or manicure. Those that crack before, opt preferably for the BB Perfect Pastel manicure from L’Oréal Paris that smoothes, unifies and protects the nail. Result? Perfect bare nail effect!

We recommend that you use the adequate manicure and pedicure set to take care of your nails before applying any kind of varnish.
